Lost Arrow Gun Dogs feels strongly about animal behavior and well being. By understanding a dogs comfort level in the training process we start to truly understand what motivates that particular animal.

I am a certified Canine Massage Practitioner trained by the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupuncture and Massage. The techniques I use have a calming effect on the dogs I treat. It is my feeling that bird dogs, like any athlete, need to be well rounded and as stress free as possible. Training is stressful on an animal. They are confronted with demands which have not been placed on them before formal training began. By observing and addressing an animal’s problem behavior, be it withdrawing from stimulation or showing aggression and/or dominance toward other dogs in the group, we can understand the dog’s strengths and weaknesses. With this understanding we can produce a confident, focused, well socialized bird dog.

During the time Keny Glasscock spent with us obtaining his Huntsmith Certification, we were able to see results from his canine massage techniques. Keny is able to quickly identify and address tension in a dog's body. These techniques enable Keny to ease each individual dog's stress. A relaxed dog is more capable of adapting to its surroundings, dealing with mental or emotional issues, and is more receptive to the learning process.

Daily massage sessions with Keny played a big part in developing two particular bird dogs in our kennel.  Both individuals were dealing with stresses in their own ways. One had the challenge of dealing with environmental stimuli by exuding nervous energy and the other was a very strong alpha personality that dealt with his stresses by showing aggression towards fellow canines, as well as people. There is no magical cure for the baggage these dogs were dealing with, however relaxing their bodies helped relax their minds, allowing them to be more receptive to their surroundings and to our training. Keny's massage sessions played a large role in allowing those dogs to become stronger, better socialized individuals.

Being able to read a dog's body language is a critical skill for any dog trainer. Keny's expertise in canine massage gives him a keen eye for reading a dog's body and behavior. This skill better enables Keny to care for all aspects of his training dogs and to bring out the best in each individual.
